Leadership Philosophy & Commitment Statement
About me

As a child, my dad often reminded me of the importance of being a lifelong learner. That message has stuck with me throughout my life and has inspired me to try new things as much as possible. I love learning from others, new experiences, and even failures.

I believe that in order to learn, you must be a good listener. I pride myself on my ability to listen attentively. I am eager to hear people’s stories and ideas.

As a leader, I find purpose in helping others. I attribute this to my early leadership roles as an ocean rescue lifeguard. Since then, I have found myself in various roles where I get to help people and truly make a difference- this is my biggest motivation as a leader.
How I define leadership

I resonate with transformational leadership. This leadership style inspires positive changes and instills growth in team members. Transformational leaders advocate for new ways of thinking and consider the personal needs of their followers.

I believe leadership is about inspiring and supporting your team to achieve goals. To be an effective leader, you must offer guidance and cultivate an engaging environment. Great leaders are passionate, confident, and reliable. These characteristics contribute to a loyal and inspired team.
What I expect from myself

-
I will lead by example. I want to inspire you to always do your best.
-
I will listen to my team’s ideas, questions, and concerns. I want you to know that I am here for you and will always listen.
-
I will offer support and guidance. I want to help you and celebrate your success.
-
I will create an environment where you can flourish.
-
I will remain open-minded.
-
I will communicate effectively with all team members.
What I expect from others

-
Show up as your best self.
-
Treat others the way you want to be treated.
-
Create work that inspires.
-
Openly communicate with me and team members.
-
Seek continued growth and learning opportunities.
-
Don’t overwork yourself and risk burnout.
Personal idiosyncrasies

I love hearing new ideas and perspectives. As a leader, it is my job to facilitate an environment where you feel comfortable sharing. If someone has an idea they’re passionate about, I am always thinking of ways to help bring their vision to life.
Mutual respect is also very important to me. My biggest pet peeve is hearing others being interrupted or being interrupted myself. Listening is vital in a learning environment, and I expect team members to be listening when someone else is sharing.
Nonnegotiables

-
I will not tolerate a negative attitude.
-
You must be collaborative. We are a team.
-
I will not accept low-quality work. Your work reflects you and the team.
-
You need to communicate effectively with me and everyone on the team.
Conclusion

My ultimate goal as a leader is to inspire my team to create high-quality work, openly express their thoughts, and seek personal and professional improvement. I will achieve this by leading by example, listening to my team, and providing learning opportunities. I hope to be equally inspired by my team and create a community that values creativity, communication, and self-growth.
